MAMA
Mama. There’s so much to say about this amazing old lady. Mama has always been a volunteer favorite, but did you know she used to HATE us?!? We couldn’t even get near her when we first started visiting her. Pretty shocking, considering how much she loves everyone now!! When we first started visiting Mama, she lived outside in a broken down dog house and on a heavy chain. Her owner was a struggling senior citizen that was also old school and just didn’t know any different. Many people legitimately think this is how dogs are supposed to be raised. We took several months of giving Mama respect, distance, and going at her pace before we saw any change in her behavior with us.
One visit she started wagging her tail! Then the next visit she stopped barking at us. Then the next time we came back, it was like it was meant to be! She all of the sudden LOVED us, and has been a changed dog from that very moment.
These days, everyone is a friend of Mama! She welcomes any human or dog to visit her these days. We also became very close with her owner and love him very much. We talk to him regularly on the phone and always try to help with his needs as well. His care for Mama has done a complete 180 once he knew there was a better way. We helped her get spayed, built her a kennel, and provided any supplies he needs for her. These days, Mama frequently comes inside, he takes her for walks, and she is simply the light of his life. Mama is a prime example of a true outreach success story of Dog Aide.
